So, Anneke Van Giersbergen recently chatted with IMPACT Metal Channel about the whole THE GATHERING reunion circus—sorry, celebratory shows—for the 30th birthday of their iconic “Mandylion” album. When asked if she’s hyped to reunite with her former bandmates, she hit ’em with the classic “Very. Very.” (via BLABBERMOUTH.NET, because of course). “It’s wild how fast those tickets vanished! We knew folks would dig it, but sold out in a snap? We’re all over here like, ‘Wait, people still remember us?!’” (Okay, she didn’t say that last part, but you can sense the vibe.) Rehearsals are underway, and they’re dusting off the old bangers to “give the people what they want—nostalgia with a side of Dutch precision.”
Any chance of a full-blown tour? Anneke’s like, “Pump the brakes, buddy. Let’s nail these Dutch gigs first before we start renting tour buses again.” Priorities, people!
Here’s the deal: THE GATHERING’s “Mandylion” dream team—yes, the one that accidentally invented “goth-but-make-it-artsy” back in ’95—is playing five sold-out nights in Nijmegen’s Doornroosje this August. But first, a warm-up show in Eindhoven’s Dynamo club on June 29. Mark your calendars, or don’t—it’s already sold out anyway. Fun fact: Doornroosje is basically THE GATHERING’s second home—they did their 25th-anniversary shindig there too. Cozy!
