BLACK FLAG Announces New Lineup, Promises Music And Tours

Guess who’s back with a fresh crew? The OG punk chaos-makers BLACK FLAG just unveiled a new lineup. Founding guitarist Greg Ginn – the man who probably owns more amp noise pedals than socks – is now joined by vocalist Max Zanelly, bassist David Rodriguez, and drummer Bryce Weston. Cue the mosh pit!

According to their social media, the revamped squad is already “in the studio and rehearsal space – writing, jamming, and bringing fresh energy.” Translation: they’re either crafting the next Rise Above or plotting how to out-weird their 1984 synth-punk phase. Stay tuned.

The band’s statement drops hints like confetti at a basement show: “We’re turning the page. BLACK FLAG is entering a new era – and we’re hyped to welcome three incredible new members… Live shows are coming. New music is coming. Tour dates drop soon.” (Pro tip: stock up on earplugs and Advil now.)

For those who flunked Punk History 101: BLACK FLAG started in 1976 as Hermosa Beach’s angriest export, cycling through vocalists like Keith Morris (who later formed OFF! and became punk’s sassiest grandpa), Henry Rollins (yes, that spoken-word-touring, action-star Henry), and others. Fun fact: their iconic “four bars” logo has sparked more lawsuits than actual band practices.

The 2024 lineup featured Mike Vallely on vocals – a man who joined as a guest in 2003 and somehow stuck around for 11 years – plus rhythm section ringers from Seattle’s DARKHORSE RISING. But hey, lineup shuffles are BLACK FLAG’s cardio. Remember when Greg sued his ex-bandmates in 2013 over the FLAG tour name? The legal drama was juicier than a Rollins Stage dive. They settled with “FLAG gets to be FLAG, and we get to keep the Sharpie logo,” per lawyer Evan Cohen. Punk rock: where the riffs are loud and the lawsuits louder.
