On Saturday, July 5, metal history was made when OZZY OSBOURNE, aka the Prince of Darkness, rocked the stage for the last time ever, joined by the original BLACK SABBATH lineup – can you believe it had been two whole decades since they’d all been together on stage? Talk about a metal event for the ages!
All the dosh from “Back To The Beginning” is being split three ways between local charities, according to the BBC. So, who are these lucky charities, and what’s the cash being used for?
– One of the charities is Birmingham Children’s Hospital – a cause close to SHARON and OZZY’s hearts, having supported it before. Ozzy, being a metal legend and all.
“We found out when everyone else found out, when the gig was announced… it was absolutely a lovely delight,” said Sheeba Ali, a fundraising manager at the charity. Sounds like they were stoked!
– Cure Parkinson’s is another charity getting a slice of the pie, and it’s a cause near and dear to Sharon and Ozzy’s hearts – Ozzy’s been dealing with Parkinson’s disease and some nasty spinal injuries, which pretty much grounded his touring days. He spilled the beans about his diagnosis back in January 2020.
The charity’s director of fundraising and marketing, Andy Simons, was “over the moon” and “so grateful”. Fair play, mate!
– Acorns Children’s Hospice is the third charity on the list. They’ve got their HQ in Birmingham and also run hospices in Walsall and Worcester, looking after a whopping 800 to 900 kids every year.
“[This will enable us] to be there for more children and families,” said Trevor Johnson, Acorns’ CEO, who’s seen demand for their services more than double in just two years. Good on ’em!
