Well well well, look who decided to crash the classical party! This weekend, FOO FIGHTERS’ resident legend and former NIRVANA sticksman Dave Grohl pulled a sneaky surprise at Coachella, hijacking the Los Angeles Philharmonic’s set with conductor Gustavo Dudamel. Because why let an orchestra have all the fun, right?
The L.A. Phil took over Coachella’s Outdoor Theatre on April 19 (classical music at a festival best known for influencer selfies – bold move). After dazzling the crowd with Beethoven and Brahms, out strolls Grohl to belt out FOO FIGHTERS’ “Everlong” and “The Sky Is The Neighborhood” with a full orchestra. Fun fact: Dudamel, nicknamed “the Dude of classical,” probably didn’t see this coming when he signed up for Coachella’s kale-smoothie backstage rider.
This marks Grohl’s first FOO jam since August 2024, though he did squeeze in a NIRVANA reunion earlier this year at a California wildfire benefit. Because apparently the man sleeps as much as a caffeinated hummingbird.
Now, about that elephant in the room: Late 2024 gossip columns exploded when Grohl admitted to fathering a child outside his marriage. His Instagram damage control included this gem:
“I’ve recently become the father of a new baby daughter, outside of my marriage. I plan to be a loving and supportive parent to her. I love my wife and my children, and I am doing everything I can to regain their trust and earn their forgiveness. We’re grateful for your consideration towards all the children involved, as we move forward together.”
(Pro tip for rockstars: Maybe don’t take parenting advice from Motley Crüe biographies.)
As for FOO FIGHTERS tours? Crickets. But hey, Grohl’s got a new book to hawk – The Storyteller: Tales of Life and Music. Rumor has it Chapter 12 explains how to play drums upside-down while crowd-surfing. Probably.
