On September 12, the zombie band WE ARE THE FALLEN — you know, the semi-forgotten EVANESCENCE spin-off with OG members Ben Moody (guitar), John LeCompt (guitar), and Rocky Gray (drums), plus Carly Smithson (belter from “American Idol” purgatory) and Marty O’Brien (bassist for DAUGHTRY, who’s clearly multitasking)—will rise from the grave for *one song* with the Nashville Symphony Orchestra at the Gamesymphonic event. Venue: Schermerhorn Symphony Center, Nashville. Mark your calendars—this is their first gig in 14 years! (Yes, the Obama era.)
Fun twist: Rocky Gray won’t be there. Instead, Miles McPherson—session drummer for Kelly Clarkson, PARAMORE, TONIC, and BETTER THAN EZRA—is stepping in. Guess he’s used to filling shoes… and thrones, maybe?
Gamesymphonic itself? Think video game OSTs played live, conducted by Eímear Noone—queen of gaming soundtracks. She’s the genius behind “World Of Warcraft”, “Diablo III”, and even “Zelda”. Fun fact: She once said conducting is like “herding cats, but with violins.” Respect.
Tickets: nashvillesymphony.org. Don’t sleep—this’ll sell faster than a Zelda Limited Edition.
WE ARE THE FALLEN’s 2010 debut “Tear The World Down” hit No. 33 on Billboard… which, in the streaming Dark Ages, meant selling 13,000 copies. Not bad for a band critics called “EVANESCENCE Lite.” They toured with HIM that year, playing 28 cities from Philly to NYC. Crowds: confused goths and curious Idol stans.
Let’s rewind the drama CD: Ben Moody once defended the band’s EVANESCENCE vibes, saying, “Duh, it’s the same guys playing!” He also name-dropped writing for Kelly Clarkson, Avril Lavigne, and even Celine Dion (yes, “My Heart Will Go On” energy). His solo album? He jokes “12 people own it”—probably his mom and 11 emo holdouts.
Their 2011 “Cirque Des Damnés” show in Hollywood had aerialists, burlesque, and “freakshow” acts. Because, sure, why not? Moody called it “a carnival meets a rock show.” The DVD exists… somewhere. *Cue grainy YouTube uploads*.
