Kennebec, Holy Wave, Bayonne and More to Play Opening Slots on Minus The Bear’s Anniversary Tour

Remember When We All Used Limewire? MINUS THE BEAR Does

Ah, the early 2000s – when flip phones reigned supreme, iPods were flex-worthy, and Myspace bands made us question our haircut choices. Enter MINUS THE BEAR, your favorite math-rock/emo-adjacent noodlers, who just remembered their 2005 album Menos el Oso turns 20 this year. Cue the midlife crisis tour!

Today’s news: they’ve recruited enough openers to fill a Warped Tour lineup. You’ll get KENNEBEC (named after a river, not a Canadian Tire store), SOFT PALMS (sounds like a spa treatment), and DISHEVELED CUSS (modestly accurate band name). Check which sad/dreamy/chaotic act warms up your city below.

Menos el Oso put us on a trajectory that none of us were expecting. There is a ‘before ‘Pachuca Sunrise’ video’ moment in time, and then there is an ‘after ‘Pachuca Sunrise’ video’ moment in time. It seemed like once people heard that song, and saw that video, everyone went straight to Limewire, Napster, Soulseek, BitTorrent, etc. and shared the album immediately.

“Celebrating the twentieth anniversary of something this monumental in our lives is a gift. Having the chance to appreciate it with our fans, families and fellow bandmates while we are all alive and kicking is an opportunity I can’t wait to embrace.”

Tour starts October 4 in Portland (we heard they still have artisanal kale there) and wraps up with TWO Seattle shows because flannel enthusiasts need options. Tickets are selling faster than a Hot Topic clearance rack. Full dates:

TOUR DATES: Where to Watch Millennials Sob to ‘Pachuca Sunrise’ 🎸

  • 10/4 Portland, OR – Roseland Theater (w/ KENNEBEC)
  • 10/6 Sacramento, CA – Ace of Spades (w/ THE NEW TRUST – fun fact: they’re basically music vampires, active since 1999)
  • 10/7 San Francisco, CA – Regency Ballroom (w/ VELVET TEEN – still surviving since Y2K, miraculously)
  • 10/8 San Diego, CA – Observatory North Park (w/ SOFT PALMS)
  • 10/10 Las Vegas, NV – Best Friends Forever Festival (w/ MINUS THE BEAR headlining, obviously)
  • 10/11 Los Angeles, CA – The Belasco (w/ SPEEDY ORTIZ – a band name that sounds like a rejected James Bond villain)
  • 10/12 Los Angeles, CA – The Belasco Encore (w/ DISHEVELED CUSS)
  • 10/14 Tempe, AZ – Marquee Theatre (w/ FROM INDIAN LAKES – not actually from India or near lakes)
  • 10/16-10/18 Austin/Dallas – Emos Austin & Granada Theater (w/ HOLY WAVE and GIRL IN A COMA – shoutout to Morrissey for letting them open that one time)
  • 10/19-10/22 Southern Swing – New Orleans to Atlanta (all w/ BAYONNE – guy makes loops, not pastries)
  • 10/24-11/29 East Coast & Midwest Chaos – Catch SLOW MASS, EVIL, and THE MESSTHETICS (DC’s punk-jazz grandpas) before wrapping in Seattle with PASTEL FACES and CONSTANT LOVERS (🕶️)

Pro tip: Check if your city has back-to-back shows. Nothing says “I’m reliving my youth” like consecutive nights of ironic head-bobbing. See you in the pit (but gently, our knees aren’t 20 anymore).
