Today’s entry in our Ask The Artist series drags us into the cerebral and hostile territory of SISYPHEAN, a ferocious metal entity from Vilnius, Lithuania that thrives on tension, atmosphere and psychological corrosion. Blending black metal bleakness with death metal weight, the band has been steadily refining their unsettling sonic language since emerging in the mid-2010s.
With a new full-length album Divergence looming on the horizon (due April 3 via Edged Circle Productions), the band recently unleashed the single “In Divergence” — a dense, ferocious piece of blackened dissonance that sets the tone for what’s to come.
But before we get to that, we asked the band a simple existential question.

The Question
“If you knew today was your last day alive, what would you do?”
SISYPHEAN answer:
“Heroin.”
Well. Straight to the point. No bucket list, no spiritual enlightenment, no last sunset over the Baltic Sea. Just immediate self-destruction. Brutally honest, disturbingly efficient — and arguably very on-brand.
Now Playing: SISYPHEAN – “In Divergence”
With “In Divergence”, SISYPHEAN continue their exploration of dissonant black metal sharpened by death metal aggression. The track moves between relentless tremolo storms, crushing double-kick momentum and crooked, off-balance riff structures that refuse to settle into anything comfortable.
It’s heavy, hostile and intellectually venomous — the kind of song that feels less like entertainment and more like a psychological autopsy.
Lyrically, the track dives into the darker recesses of the human psyche, examining manipulative personalities and the damage caused by narcissism and psychological control. These traits, often hidden deep within the mind, are presented as something both terrifying and disturbingly common in modern society. The band frames the song as an attempt to expose those traits — and perhaps even confront them.
The accompanying video strips everything down to the essentials: the band performing the track with zero theatrics, letting the music’s oppressive intensity speak for itself.
“In Divergence” serves as the latest glimpse into Divergence, SISYPHEAN’s upcoming third full-length album. Known for crafting atmospheric yet jagged compositions that balance elegance with menace, the Lithuanian group appear ready to push their already unsettling sound even further into the abyss.
🕯 Cold intellect. Crooked riffs. Psychological warfare disguised as black metal.
SISYPHEAN don’t promise answers — only deeper fractures.
