Metal Facebook has entered mild chaos mode after Mick Kenney of ANAAL NATHRAKH publicly called out AMORPHIS for allegedly lifting a melody from “Endarkenment”, the title track off Anaal Nathrakh’s 2020 album.
It started when Kenney dropped a short but loaded post on his Facebook:
“I wonder where they ripped this off from?”
— Mick Kenney, five hours ago, casually lighting a match and walking away
The track in question is the newly released “Light And Shadow” from new AMORPHIS’ record Borderland (out September 26th, 2025).
The Comment Section Did Not Hold Back
Once the comparison was on the table, the replies went from curious to savage pretty much instantly:
“and I thought it sounded TOO familiar.”
- “Oh man that is BLATANT… I was expecting like an outro thing or a subtle nod but nope. Yeesh.”
“Sounds like some extra income for you guys!”
- “Oh yeah I can hear the same lead melody from the intro, lol.”
“They’ve been bereft of ideas for many years now, this comes as no surprise.”
“Yeah… not subtle.”
“Who do they think they are, Obscura??? 😂”
“Oh damn.”
“Yeah that is Endarkenment.”
“‘Inspiration…’ klaarted.”
“Proper goons.”
— to which Kenney dropped the cold reply: “Once a goon…”
The Verdict? Metal Internet Says: Suspiciously Familiar
Whether it’s a subconscious homage or a direct lift, the online jury of extreme metal fans seems united in one verdict: that intro is raising eyebrows.
So… Coincidence? Influence? Or Straight-Up Rip?
No official response from AMORPHIS yet — and knowing their usual calm PR stance, we probably won’t get fireworks. But right now the conversation is less “Is it inspired?” and more “How did no one think people would notice?”
