SEPULTURA’s Final Tour: The Band Is Writing New Music

Remember when bands used to mean it when they said “farewell”? Yeah, us neither. SEPULTURA, currently in the middle of their “final world tour” (final in the same sense that Mötley Crüe’s retirement was final), have already started talking about—wait for it—new music. Because apparently nothing screams the end like writing new songs.

In a recent appearance on The David Ellefson Show podcast, bassist Paulo Jr. casually dropped the bomb that they’ve been recording new material with their shiny new drummer Greyson Nekrutman, who replaced Eloy Casagrande last year. That’s right, while fans are still shelling out cash for the privilege of watching the “last ever” shows, the band is already setting the stage for the next phase of their supposedly over career. Bravo.

Paulo praised Nekrutman’s jazzy style, saying he was told not to “be that much metal” and just play like himself. Perfect. Because when you think of SEPULTURA, you immediately think bebop solos and brushed snares. If the next EP doesn’t sound like Miles Davis jamming in a Brazilian rainforest, we’re demanding a refund.

At this point, SEPULTURA’s farewell is starting to look less like a goodbye and more like that drunk friend at the party who keeps announcing they’re leaving, then sits back down to tell another story. “Alright guys, this is it, thanks for 40 years, it’s been amazing… oh wait, here’s a jazzy new EP, and maybe a box set, and don’t forget the reunion of the farewell tour in 2027!”

Final tours used to be marketing gimmicks. Now they’re just band meetings with ticket sales.
