VESTIGE Get Heavy on “Envy”. Fresh Faces of Modern Metal Unleash New Single Ahead of Hellfest Debut

“Feels like The Ocean and Alcest filtered through a European style of tech metal… so powerful and old-school.”New Noise

As they prepare to take the Hellfest stage for the very first time, VESTIGE release a powerful new single, “Envy”, out today. Unflinching and emotionally charged, the track delves deep into personal trauma, shaping sound out of scars that don’t fade easily. Balancing brooding post-metal ambiance with sharp melodic intensity, “Envy” explores that fragile space where sorrow turns to fury.

The French modern metal act made waves last year with their debut album Janis, but “Envy” cuts even deeper. Vocalist and guitarist Théodore Rondeau revisits painful memories of domestic abuse, confronting the lasting shadows of a jealous parental partner. The lines “You never broke me / You tried” and “Let me shine away from your controlling games” strike like emotional gut-punches, delivered over layers of shoegaze melancholy and shattering distortion.

“Envy is always seen / It hides from your words,” Rondeau roars—naming what was once buried, and reclaiming it with brutal honesty.

The band will be performing “Envy” live alongside material from Janis during their Hellfest appearance on Saturday, June 21—marking an important milestone for a group that’s quickly becoming a name to watch in the European metal scene.

About the Band

VESTIGE was born not out of trend, but necessity. For Rondeau, it was a way to process difficult personal history and channel unresolved emotion into something creative—and eventually, collective. What began as an individual outlet quickly evolved into a fully formed band, capturing shared experiences and turning vulnerability into catharsis.

Joining Rondeau are Pierre-André Krauzer on bass, Quentin Regnault on drums, and Thomas Petit on second guitar—each of whom crossed paths during their time in Naraka, a band that shared the stage with heavyweights like Cradle of Filth and Alcest. That prior collaboration planted the seed for what would become VESTIGE: an ensemble rooted in emotional authenticity, bonded by shared history, and armed with a clear sonic identity.

Their debut album Janis is a sprawling, intense collection of modern metal that weaves together shoegaze textures, melodic despair, and cathartic aggression. It’s not just a record—it’s a release valve. A space to feel, reflect, and connect.

Now signed to Season of Mist, VESTIGE are stepping into the light—darkness in tow—with a string of live shows planned for 2024. Their performances aim to be more than just concerts. They’re invitations: to dive into raw emotion, confront shadows, and maybe, just maybe, feel a little less alone.
