Okay, let’s talk DVDs. Are they still a thing? Like, do people even own players anymore? That’s what popped into my head when ex-<a href=”https://www.metalsucks.net/tag/megadeth/” target=”blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>MEGADETH shredlord <a href=”https://www.metalsucks.net/tag/marty-friedman/” target=”blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>MARTY FRIEDMAN announced he’s dropping a live concert DVD. But then I remembered: Marty’s fanbase is either Gen-Xers clinging to their ’90s nostalgia or Japanese teens who think DVDs are retro-chic. Perfect match, really.
In a recent Instagram vid, Marty—rocking his signature “anime protagonist at a board meeting” vibe—revealed plans to film his June 13 show at Santiago, Chile’s Teatro Cariola. Why? To immortalize it on… drumroll …DVD. And also a live album, because why make things simple? Here’s the man himself, dropping the news:
”Santiago, Chile, I have a wonderful, wonderful announcement to make to you guys. We’re gonna be recording a live DVD and a live album in your wonderful country and wonderful city of Santiago on June 13th. We’re so honored and excited to be doing this. It’s gonna be me, of course, and [drummer] Chargeee, of course, [bassist] Wakazaemon, of course, and [guitarist] Naoki [Morioka], of course. Can’t wait to see you there.”
Quick aside: Did you know Marty ditched MEGADETH in the ’90s to become a Japanese TV superstar and J-pop collaborator? Dude’s like the cultural chameleon of guitar heroes. Also, Chargeee and Wakazaemon sound less like bandmates and more like rare Pokémon. Just saying.
