Joe Perry sat down with WBUR’s Jim Sullivan and casually tossed out the idea of one last AEROSMITH hurrah. This comes a year after the Boston bad boys (who once nearly imploded from *so* much ’70s drama) said “peace out” to touring ’cause Steven Tyler busted his larynx mid-show in 2023. Perry shrugged, “Bet there’s another AEROSMITH gig left. Maybe a doc? Who knows. Steven’s done touring. Dude’s 77 – can’t blame him. Forty cities? Nah. That ‘walk’ ain’t so easy these days.”
Meanwhile, Tyler’s been moonlighting. He crashed BLACK SABBATH’s “Back To The Beginning” charity bash, belting out “The Train Kept-A-Rollin'” with a squad like Ron Wood (ROLLING STONES’ part-time wild man), Nuno Bettencourt (EXTREME shredder who moonlights as Rihanna’s guitarist), and Tom Morello (RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE’s political riff machine). Then he dusted off AEROSMITH’s “Walk This Way” and LED ZEPPELIN’s “Whole Lotta Love” – swapping in RHCP’s Chad Smith (drum god in Hawaiian shirts) for Travis Barker (BLINK-182’s tattooed timekeeper). Classic rock potluck!
Perry later told SiriusXM‘s Eddie Trunk he’s “always hoping” for an AEROSMITH encore: “But touring? Bruh. It’s *exhausting*. At 73, I ain’t 25 – that energy drain’s real. Though I did jam with Steven at a SF charity gig in April… so maybe? We’re still breathing!” He added, laughing, “Every show feels like the last. Rock ’n’ roll Roulette, baby.”
Asked if Tyler’s voice could handle a full set, Perry joked, “He’d *try*. But we’re old. Remember COVID? Sleeping in *actual beds*? Revolutionary. Touring’s a young man’s game… but hey, watch me crank it up with THE JOE PERRY PROJECT this August. Got Chris Robinson (BLACK CROWES’ frontman and notorious ’90s chaos magnet) on vocals, Robert DeLeo (STONE TEMPLE PILOTS’ bass guru) – we’re dragging this circus across eight U.S. cities!”
Mark your calendars: THE JOE PERRY PROJECT hits the road in August 2025 with AEROSMITH’s Brad Whitford, STONE TEMPLE PILOTS’ rhythm section, and enough rock nostalgia to power a time machine. Oh, and AEROSMITH’s shelved “Peace Out” tour? It’s *supposed* to reboot September 20, 2024, in Pittsburgh with openers THE BLACK CROWES. Unless Steven’s larynx says otherwise.
