Rock band cancels tour dates after frontman’s ‘freak accident’

Kings of Leon fans got some bad news this week.

The well-known rock band has pulled the plug on all of their forthcoming UK and European shows after frontman Caleb Followill injured his foot in a “freak accident.”

In a statement, the band shared with fans that Followill sustained a serious injury, where he “shattered his heel” and wouldn’t be able to travel or perform.

“The anticipated recovery process is expected to take 8 weeks, under strict guidance of expert orthopedic specialists. The band regrets to report that they will need to cancel all upcoming UK and European festival headline shows in June and July of this year.”

The video was posted to the group’s official Instagram page, in which Followill revealed to fans that “emergency surgery” was needed after breaking his foot while playing with his kids.

The frontman shares two children, daughter Dixie, 12, and son Winston, 6, with wife, model Lily Aldridge.

“Hello to everyone out there, especially our European fans that are preparing to come see us this summer. Unfortunately, I regret to inform you that those shows will have to be cancelled due to a freak accident that happened the other day. Broke my foot pretty bad just playing with my kids,” he revealed to fans in the video on Wednesday.

“It’s pretty gnarly. I’ll spare all the details, but we’re fortunate enough to have some great doctors here in Nashville that gave me emergency surgery,” he continued. “And I’m on the mend, but they’ve told me that I can’t be on my feet or traveling or anything for the next eight weeks or so. And that’s a big bummer, man. We were so excited. We’ve been preparing for this tour for a long time.”

The timing of the accident comes at a rough moment. The group – comprising of brothers Caleb, Nathan, and Jared Followill, as well as their cousin Matthew – planned for a string of shows beginning June 10 in Paris and ending July 12 in Portugal.

The band released their most recent album, “Can We Please Have Fun” in May 2024.

“We’ve been preparing for this tour for a long time. Been preparing for a lot of things. We’ve been in the studio recording. We have a bunch of new songs. We were gonna debut a few of them on this run. Had a lot of exciting things planned. And now we’re just gonna have to pivot and find a new way to continue the work that we’ve started.”

In the video, he also informed viewers that new tracks are on the way.

“I’m very excited when we do get to show you the stuff that we’re doing, and in the meantime we’re gonna do whatever work we can while I have these limitations,” he said. “But exciting stuff is coming!”

After he asked everyone to wish him luck, Followill directed the camera to his bandaged foot.

The earliest concert dates that are still listed on the group’s website are scheduled for July 18-20 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. An additional eight dates after that are scheduled through the end of September in locations that includes California, France, and the U.K.
