RUSH Returns in 2026 — Geddy and Alex Are “Fifty Something” and Still More Progressive Than You

After more than a decade of silence, GEDDY LEE and ALEX LIFESON have decided that retirement was simply too boring — and that there are still plenty of 11-minute songs that haven’t been performed live enough times. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees have officially announced their “Fifty Something” 2026 headline tour, celebrating RUSH’s towering musical legacy and the life of the late, irreplaceable Neil Peart.

The tour begins June 7 at The Kia Forum in Los Angeles — the very same stage where the band last closed their R40 tour in 2015 — bringing things satisfyingly (and very prog-appropriately) full circle. From there, the shows stretch across North America and Mexico through September, with multi-night stops in every city because, well, it takes at least two nights to play half of 2112.

“We F***ing Miss It,” Says Geddy Lee

In the official announcement, Geddy Lee put it plainly:

“Alex and I did some soul-searching and realized we f***ing miss it. So in 2026, my BFF Lerxst and I are hitting the road again to celebrate 50-something years of RUSH music.”

Lee also confirmed that behind the kit will be Anika Nilles, a German drummer, composer, and Jeff Beck alumnus, stepping into the unenviable “no pressure” role of following Neil Peart. According to Lee, hearing RUSH songs come to life again in rehearsal “put a charge” in him and Lifeson — and apparently confirmed that odd time signatures still sound great in surround sound.

Alex Lifeson added that revisiting RUSH’s complex catalog reminded him “how difficult it is to play” — which is exactly what every fan wanted to hear before trying to air-guitar along to La Villa Strangiato again.

A Tribute, Not a Reboot

Each night of the “Fifty Something” tour will feature two sets — a career-spanning deep dive into RUSH’s labyrinthine discography, along with a dedicated segment honoring Neil Peart’s memory. “It’s going to be beautiful,” said Lifeson. “And probably exhausting, but mostly beautiful.”

Neil’s widow Carrie Nuttall-Peart and daughter Olivia Peart publicly gave their blessing to the tour, calling it “a fitting celebration of Neil’s artistry and the band’s enduring spirit.”

The Return of the Nerd Kings

Fans learned about the reunion through a home video filmed in Geddy Lee’s studio (because of course it was), followed by a Q&A event at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, where the two confirmed that, yes, they’re still friends and, yes, the show will be “in 7/8 time or better.”
