TORCHE Reunites, Announces First Show Back

Guess who’s back from the rock ‘n’ roll grave? That’s right—your one and only TORCHE, the band that basically invented “thunderpop” (a genre they made up, but we’re all rolling with it). After their very dramatic breakup in 2022, they’re reuniting for a one-night-only gig with CAVE IN on September 10 at London’s Electric Ballroom. No, there’s no new album, no tour dates, and no clue who’s even in the band now—but hey, let’s just be grateful they’re not sending us a breakup mixtape instead.

Speaking of lineups: When TORCHE last waved goodbye, they were a four-piece featuring Steve “Riff Lord” Brooks on vocals/guitar, Jon Nuñez shredding, Eric Hernandez on bass, and Rick Smith smashing drums. Think of it as a who’s who of “Wait, how do they make that much noise with just four people?”

As for why they split? Steve Brooks dropped the truth bomb on Instagram like a mic drop. When a fan asked if the band was done, he replied: “We’re done. Only plan on reissuing out of print records some day. Moving on.” In another cheery post (via The PRP), he roasted tour life: “Imagine driving cross-country in a van that smells like stale beer, worrying about cash, theft, and whether your bandmate remembered to feed their cat. The only fun part? Playing live for, like, an hour. Come see us if you’re into that.”
