Vastum announce rare tour with Goetia

One day after Leila Abdul-Rauf was supposed to play a rare NYC solo show in support of her great new solo album (and play as part of Gridfailure’s band at the same gig) — she cancelled hours before the show due to Covid — an extremely rare tour has been announced by her death metal band Vastum, who last played NYC at Saint Vitus in 2017, and who have only played a handful of shows anywhere since, despite releasing new albums in both 2019 and 2023.

Along with Leila on guitar and vocals, and fellow founder/vocalist Daniel Butler, the band’s lineup for the tour includes drummer Adam Perry (who played on Vastum’s 2013 album Patricidal Lust and 2015 album Hole Below), bassist Colin Tarvin (Mortuous, Evulse), and guitarist Greg Brace (Wild Hunt, ex-Dispirit). Longtime guitarist Shelby Lermo (also of Ulthar, and as of recently, Nails) left the band after the making of 2023’s Inward to Gethsemane while recovering from throat cancer.

The tour begins in the Pacific Northwest in late March, and then makes its way over to the Midwest and East Coast. Most dates are with support from DC death-metallers Goetia, including the shows at Butler, NJ’s Sanctuary on April 5 and Brooklyn’s Wood Shop on April 7. They also play Decibel Metal & Beer Fest in Philly the same weekend as the NJ show. All dates are listed below.
