BAD RELIGION and DROPKICK MURPHYS Announce “Summer of Discontent” Tour, Immediately Ban Kilt Crowd Surfing Due to ‘Overexposure’

July 13, 2025 | Tours & Trouser Trauma

Punk legends BAD RELIGION and DROPKICK MURPHYS have announced they’re joining forces for the first time ever on a 2025 co-headlining trek dubbed the “Summer of Discontent”—and, apparently, summer isn’t the only thing being exposed.

While fans are thrilled about the tour’s 15-city run across the U.S., kicking off July 22 in Spokane and wrapping August 17 in Big Flats, NY, there’s one demographic that’s slightly less excited: security guards and innocent pit-goers who’ve suffered at the hands (and eyes) of airborne kilt-wearers.

In a joint statement released shortly after tickets went on sale, both bands have officially banned crowd surfing in kilts, citing “a dramatic rise in unsolicited testicle contact” during past Dropkick shows.

“We’re trying to foster unity and community out there—not turn our concerts into a surprise anatomy quiz,” said BAD RELIGION’s Greg Graffin, presumably while polishing his reading glasses and burning every photo of a man in plaid.

Ken Casey of Dropkick Murphys added: “Look, we love the enthusiasm. But when three people from the Cleveland show filed lawsuits claiming PTSD from seeing the same set of balls five times in one song, we knew it was time to put our foot down. Preferably not on anyone’s giblets.”

The band’s long-time supporter and kilt cult hero Jeremy “Kilt Guy” Flanagan was reportedly devastated by the news. Reached for comment at a Buffalo dive bar, Flanagan was found icing what he claimed were “heroic bruises” and muttering about “freedom of ball expression.”

Tour organizers say that pants will be enforced, especially in the pit area, where “every hand deserves safety, and every face deserves mercy.”
