Racing games used to throw a few licensed songs into the menu screen and call it a day. Apparently, those days are dead and buried under a mountain of distortion pedals, drum machines and anime-core chaos.
With Forza Horizon 6 arriving May 19 for Xbox, PlayStation and PC, developers at Playground Games have revealed a soundtrack that feels less like a video game playlist and more like somebody accidentally uploaded an entire alternative festival season into a sports car.
And honestly? The metal and hardcore crowd got fed.
The in-game Horizon XS station looks like it was programmed by someone who survived both Warped Tour and a cyberpunk apocalypse. You’ve got TURNSTILE ripping through ‘SOLE’, SPIRITBOX bringing the controlled violence of ‘Keep Sweet’, BIFFY CLYRO dropping ‘Friendshipping’, while A DAY TO REMEMBER, COHEED AND CAMBRIA, LINKIN PARK and RISE AGAINST pile into the same lane like a freeway collision made entirely of breakdowns.
Then things get gloriously unhinged.
BABYMETAL appear twice, because apparently one dose of sugar-rush metal wasn’t enough. BAND-MAID show up with ‘What is justice?’, PASSCODE continue Japan’s ongoing mission to make genre boundaries meaningless, and PENDULUM team with AWOLNATION because subtlety clearly wasn’t invited to this soundtrack meeting.
Meanwhile, SUB POP’s dedicated station feels like the indie kid hiding in the garage while the metalheads destroy drywall in the next room. FOALS, BEACH HOUSE, BAND OF HORSES and THE SHINS drift through dreamy melancholy while PISSED JEANS remind everyone deodorant and aggression still exist.
Elsewhere, Horizon Bass Arena is pure electronic overstimulation. NINAJIRACHI, CALVIN HARRIS, FISHER, ISOXO and CONFIDENCE MAN turn the game into a rolling nightclub where every traffic violation probably deserves its own laser show.
And if that somehow isn’t enough, Horizon Block Party stacks PUBLIC ENEMY, LITTLE SIMZ, ANDERSON .PAAK, LIL NAS X and SLICK RICK into a hip-hop lineup that looks suspiciously like somebody emptied several decades of cool into one folder and clicked “shuffle.”
The funniest part is that Forza Horizon 6 might accidentally become one of 2026’s biggest music discovery platforms. Somewhere out there, a teenager is about to miss an important race because they pulled over to ask, “Wait… who the hell are SPIRITBOX?”
For once, getting distracted while driving might actually improve your taste in music.
