WAILIN STORMS Turn Southern Gothic Dread Into A Four-Lane Funeral On “Dead End”

WAILIN STORMS have released “Dead End,” the third and final advance single from their upcoming album The Arsonist, out July 10, 2026 via Season of Mist.

And yes, it sounds exactly like the kind of song that starts with headlights on an empty road and ends with someone finding teeth in the ash.

“Dead End” opens The Arsonist, and it does not ease anyone into the room. It kicks the door inward. The track drags the band’s Southern gothic rock through post-punk dread, raw blues-punk muscle, and a black-smoke atmosphere that feels less “single rollout” and more “bad omen found under the floorboards.”

Vocalist/guitarist Justin Storms says the song is about seeing yourself after you die, which is a lovely little image to carry into your lunch break. He also says the track came together while experimenting with a Strymon El Capistan pedal, eventually becoming the album’s first fever signal from the other side.

The video, directed, filmed, and edited by WAILIN STORMS, leans into that nightmare logic. Think David Lynch riding shotgun while the car slowly fills with smoke.

The Arsonist was recorded fully analog by Matt Talbott of HUM, with the band avoiding computers until the mixing stage. That matters here. The record sounds built from heat, wood, wire, and bad decisions, not sanded down by digital cleanliness until all the ghosts leave.

The album is WAILIN STORMS’ fifth full-length and their first for Season of Mist. It follows The Silver Snake Unfolds and finds the Durham, North Carolina band digging deeper into scorched Southern gothic rock, where doom, post-punk, blues, and psychic weather all share the same cracked mirror.

The result is rock music that feels haunted.

Not haunted in a cute seasonal way.

Haunted in a “maybe don’t answer if something knocks from inside the wall” way.
