Eight years. That’s how long fans have waited for new music from Montréal’s progressive technical death metal visionaries — and today, the silence is shattered.
BEYOND CREATION have officially unleashed “Reverence”, their first new single since 2018, marking a triumphant new chapter for the Independent Music Award winners and Canadian Grammy nominees. Released via Season of Mist, the track arrives as the band prepares to celebrate the 15th anniversary of their landmark debut album The Aura — the very record that redefined what technical death metal could be.
And make no mistake: “Reverence” doesn’t just meet expectations. It incinerates them.
A Phoenix Rising
Burdened by anticipation and the pressure that naturally follows a band of their stature, BEYOND CREATION rise on “Reverence” with explosive precision and emotional weight. The single captures the fragile space between clarity and illusion, introspection and collapse — all wrapped in the band’s signature fusion of razor-sharp technicality and soaring melodic intelligence.
“Our new single explores the fragile line between clarity and illusion,” says vocalist, guitarist and primary composer Simon Girard. “The moment you stop comparing and start focusing on who you truly are and what you genuinely want to express, something beautiful happens. You create from a place of honesty.”
And you can hear that honesty in every note.
The track opens with an almost liberating fluidity as Girard and guitarist Kevin Chartré trade intricate phrases with the telepathic chemistry that only 15+ years of collaboration can forge. But that clarity is quickly swallowed whole. Crushing riffs and thunderous grooves drag the listener into a spiraling internal war.
“Thrown into a sea of endless thoughts,” Girard roars, as the song collapses under the weight of expectation — only to rise again, stronger and sharper.
Technical Brilliance, Emotional Core
“Reverence” is everything fans love about BEYOND CREATION — and more. Drummer Philippe Boucher drives the track forward with masterful command, navigating labyrinthine passages before leading the band toward a triumphant crescendo. Meanwhile, bassist Hugo Doyon-Karout elevates the closing moments with mind-bending runs that feel almost transcendental.
Lyrically, the song tackles a painfully modern struggle: comparison culture and creative insecurity in the age of social media.
“With social media, we are constantly measuring ourselves against others,” Girard explains. “The more we compare, the further we drift from our true selves.”
But “Reverence” ultimately rejects that trap. In its final ascent — “From the abyss, my body will rise / my soul will fly / my spirit will shine” — the band emerges not just intact, but empowered.
It’s technical death metal with a beating heart.
A New Era Begins
The music video for “Reverence,” directed and produced by Francois Bertrand and Simon Girard, visually amplifies the track’s internal chaos and rebirth, capturing the band in their most intense and focused form to date.
For a group often mentioned alongside genre innovators like OBSCURA and FALLUJAH, BEYOND CREATION prove once again why they remain at the forefront of progressive technical death metal.
After eight long years, they haven’t just returned.
They’ve ascended.
And if “Reverence” is any indication, the next chapter of BEYOND CREATION may burn brighter than ever.
