Let’s return to Ask the Artist, where we throw one good question at musicians and see what kind of truth crawls out.
Today’s guest is Marc Anthony, drummer for Raleigh, NC melodic metal outfit Infinity Dream and traditional heavy metal band Widow — but this time, we’re stepping into a different realm entirely. His solo project Angel of Mercy trades pure metal muscle for dark melancholic rock, gothic pop textures, and slow-burning sensuality, landing somewhere that fans of genre-blurring acts like Sleep Token might feel very much at home.
Ask the Artist
Question:
“Does it happen to you that you listen to a song sometimes and think: ‘oh damn, I wish I’d written it’? If yes, what was the last time you thought that? What was the song and what’s so special about it?”
Marc Anthony:
“Yes, that happens frequently!! I’m heavily influenced by Vessel (Leo Faulkner) of Sleep Token. And the song ‘Give’ off their Sundowning LP is absolute perfection. Slow, sensual dance music is really a big part of my sound.”
No pretension, no gatekeeping — just pure admiration for a song that understands restraint, tension, and the power of atmosphere over brute force.
Today’s Track: “The Shadow Side”
Under the Angel of Mercy banner, Marc Anthony allows himself total freedom. No genre borders. No expectations. Just instinct. The song we’re spotlighting today, “The Shadow Side,” captures the essence of Angel of Mercy perfectly: slow, intimate, heavy without being metallic, seductive without trying too hard. It lives in the tension between light and darkness — the place where vulnerability feels dangerous, and honesty cuts the deepest.
If you’re drawn to music that breathes, broods, and lingers long after it ends — this one’s for you.
Welcome to the shadows.
