When We Were Young Festival Taking 2026 Off, Promises Return In 2027

Well… this feels painfully on brand.

While most summer festivals are busy rolling out stacked lineups and early bird presales, When We Were Young Fest — the neon-soaked nostalgia machine that launched in 2022 — has gone the opposite route. Instead of announcing bands, they’ve announced… a break.

The Las Vegas-based emo and pop-punk throwback festival confirmed on February 27 that it will sit out 2026, with plans to return in October 2027.

In a statement shared on social media, organizers wrote:

“The songs, the memories, the moments – none of it exists without you. After an unforgettable run in Las Vegas, we’ve decided to take 2026 off to give this festival the care it deserves and to make sure what comes next feels just as special as what came before.

When We Were Young Festival will return to Las Vegas in October 2027.

Thank you for showing up with your whole hearts every year. This isn’t goodbye – it’s just a phase.

We’ll see you in 2027.”

“It’s not a goodbye, it’s just a phase” might be the most on-theme explanation imaginable for a festival built on eyeliner, heartbreak, and songs about not being understood.

Still, the pause stings. When We Were Young quickly became a yearly pilgrimage for fans chasing the warm, fuzzy chaos of the 2000s — the singalongs, the side bangs, the realization that we somehow survived Myspace.

Here’s hoping this truly is just a phase and not a full-blown scene disappearance. Because if there’s ever been a time we could use a little well-curated nostalgia and communal screaming, it’s now.

See you in 2027 — allegedly.
