Today’s Ask The Artist is something special. After years of silence, Finland’s melodic death / symphonic metal force SOULFALLEN are finally stirring again — and if you know their legacy, you already understand why that matters.
Formed in 2003 and long revered in the underground for their ability to fuse crushing aggression with haunting orchestration and pure Finnish melancholy, SOULFALLEN built a trilogy of albums that still resonates with fans of dark, atmospheric extreme metal. And now — after more than a decade since The Promise of Hell — they are back.
With a new full-length album recorded and currently entering the final stages, the band has unleashed “Flesh Unearthed,” a fierce, blast-driven preview of what’s to come.
But first… we had to ask.
The Question
“If your sound was a cocktail, what would be in it?”
Kai Leikola (vocals) answers:
“And this would be our cocktail:
Vodka, orange juice, lifeblood, northern darkness, black carbon snow, angel ash and the dust from dead stars, stirred with a human bone and enjoyed on a black leather sofa while watching the world end.”
Some bands give you a drink.
SOULFALLEN give you the end of existence in a glass.
SOULFALLEN – “Flesh Unearthed”
If that “cocktail” didn’t already set the tone, “Flesh Unearthed” makes it crystal clear: SOULFALLEN have returned hungry, sharpened, and absolutely on fire.
This track is a blast-fueled assault, driven by relentless drumming, tight, cutting riffs, and a dark melodic core that refuses to let go. It’s fast, aggressive, and yet unmistakably SOULFALLEN — that signature balance between brutality and atmosphere, where symphonic layers and melancholic undertones bleed through the chaos.
Originally one of the first songs written for the new album, “Flesh Unearthed” feels like a statement of intent — a reminder that the band hasn’t lost a single ounce of their intensity. If anything, the years in the shadows have only made them more focused, more refined, and more dangerous.
Behind the scenes, the upcoming fourth album has been a long and demanding process — fully recorded after what the band describes as a “monstrous birth” of blood, sweat, and time. But the result? By their own words: it already sounds incredible, even unfinished.
And if this single is any indication, we’re looking at a massive return from one of Finland’s most underrated dark metal acts.
🖤 The veil is lifting. The dead are stirring. SOULFALLEN are back.
