MORBID ANGEL Bows Out of ‘Devastation On The Nation’ Tour as Trey Azagthoth Chooses Sobriety — and Salvation?

Metal fans braced for impact today as news broke that MORBID ANGEL won’t be joining the much-anticipated Devastation On The Nation tour. Word on the street is that guitarist Trey Azagthoth has quit drinking, joined AA, and is… well, rediscovering sobriety and the sacred.

After a few weeks in, Trey realized that, without a whiskey chaser, he couldn’t remember half his solos. “Turns out,” he reportedly said, “those riffs are tough when your only spirit is, uh… the Holy Spirit.” To add to the twist, Trey has apparently been hanging out with none other than former drummer and longtime “newborn Christian” Pete Sandoval, who’s rumored to have told Trey that “touring could be blasphemous.” Inspired, Trey has since hit up a few services, and it seems the almighty riff master may be considering a different kind of higher power these days.

But don’t fear, metalheads! I AM MORBID is stepping in with a lineup that’s half-blasphemy, half-holy water, and all brutal. Led by David Vincent with Sandoval himself back on drums, the new headliners will deliver Vincent-era MORBID ANGEL classics with unholy enthusiasm. The tour, which includes SUFFOCATION and other titans of darkness, is ready to roll on.

Tickets are selling fast—whether you’re ready for a night of metal mayhem or just curious if Pete will sprinkle a few blessings between blast beats.
