After weeks of what can only be described as a desperate search for “the least ridiculous name possible,” SYSTEM OF A DOWN bassist Shavo Odadjian has revealed that his new band, SEVEN HOURS AFTER VIOLET, will release their self-titled debut album on October 11. The band will grace the world via 1336 Records, an imprint of Sumerian Records, because apparently, naming things bizarrely is a trend for Odadjian.
When asked why SEVEN HOURS AFTER VIOLET was the name that made it past the cutting room floor, Shavo had a refreshingly honest answer: “It was the least stupid one I could come up with.” He then elaborated, saying the process was tougher than naming a pet rock: “I mean, we had some real gems before settling on this one.”
Among the contenders were:
- 5 Minutes to Pink – “It felt… a bit rushed, you know?”
- 30 Seconds to Jupiter – “I thought it sounded galactic but somehow more like an off-brand car commercial.”
- An Eternity to the New SOAD Album – “I really wanted to drive that one home, but it felt a little too on-the-nose.”
- Yesterday to Blue – “For when you’re feeling nostalgic for a color you don’t even like.”
- Two-and-a-Half Hours Past Orange – “Not bad, but a bit too much like a weird cooking show time slot.”
With all that effort, one might wonder if the band’s name is meant to have some deep, existential meaning. Shavo shrugged off such notions, deadpanning: “I dunno. It’s got the same emotional depth as waiting for your food to cool off.”
Fans, however, are eagerly awaiting the album, wondering if the music will sound like SEVEN HOURS AFTER VIOLET or if it’ll take about seven years for anyone to figure it out. Stay tuned for more updates on Shavo’s latest adventure into band-naming mediocrity!
